Touching Lives
When Pam came to Hope Haven, she often acted out and grabbed at staff and peers. It was difficult for her to interact with others due to these behaviors and her limited social skills. Through staff prompting and increased interaction with others, Pam began to feel more comfortable. Now Pam volunteers regularly at a local nursing home and enjoys spending time with the residents who live there. She has become very social with our staff and her peers and has even taken up dancing!
Leanne used to speak with very short sentences that made little sense or were not relevant. She frequently repeated words that someone said to her and didn't understand when others asked her a question or gave her directions. Working with our staff and learning new skills, Leanne has become increasingly responsive in her communication. She is now able to carry on conversations and understand better what is going on around her.
